From the Boston Public Schools this evening:
June 27, 2018
Dear Boston Public Schools Leaders:
I want to take this opportunity to share some information with you regarding the transition from the current Superintendent to an Interim Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools (BPS).
The Boston School Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Michael Loconto, is expected to announce tonight that Laura Perille is the preferred candidate to guide BPS through this transition, and that a vote on her appointment as Interim Superintendent will be held next week.
I am encouraged that many of you already have a relationship with Laura, either as a Boston resident and longtime BPS parent or in her work as President and CEO of EdVestors. With over 20 years of experience working in and around our schools, Laura shares our passion for public education and she has a proven record of working to close opportunity and achievement gaps.
Under the leadership of the Interim Superintendent, we at BPS will be working hard to ensure that renovations and construction projects remain on track, and that our school buildings are clean, safe and ready to open when we welcome students next fall. We promise to collaborate closely with you to make sure our teachers are prepared to provide students with the high-quality instruction they need to succeed academically. And we will continue to work with you on the projects that are already underway, including the redesign of the academic support structure for BPS schools, BuildBPS and the Culturally and Linguistically Sustaining Practices (CLSP) that serve as the foundation of the BPS Essentials for Instructional Equity, set by the district’s core values of Equity, Coherence and Innovation. We look forward to Laura’s input and guidance on these key initiatives.
Above all, thank you for your service to the students and families of Boston. We are dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition and we hope you will join us in welcoming Laura to this new role.
